OBS overlays
Show your request queue on stream with ready-made or custom overlays.
Find overlays under Configuration > Overlays.
- Default overlays are ready-made designs that work with your queue right away:
- Classic: a clean card with album art, song title, artist and requester.
- Queue: the first three songs in the request queue.
- Custom overlays are built in the overlay builder from shapes, live song data, colours, borders and text.
How many custom overlays you can create depends on the streamer's plan. When you reach the limit, delete an overlay or upgrade to add more. If a plan change leaves you with more overlays than it includes, your oldest ones keep working as before; the newer ones become read-only and show a large Ovatio watermark in OBS until you upgrade or delete older overlays.
Building a custom overlay
The overlay builder is a canvas you drag elements onto: Text, Image, Rectangle and Circle. Select an element to change its position, size, colours, border and text style. Undo and redo work with the usual keyboard shortcuts.
Text elements can show live details of the current song with these variables:
| Variable | Shows |
|---|---|
{{song}} | Song title, or "No song playing" when the queue is empty |
{{artist}} | Artist |
{{album}} | Album |
{{requester_name}} | Who requested it |
{{requester_login}} | The requester's username |
For example, "Now playing: {{song}} by {{artist}}". Images can be PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF, up to 5 MB each.
Adding an overlay to OBS
- Click Generate OBS URL to create a private link for the overlay.
- In OBS, add a Browser source and paste the link.
Treat the link like a password. Generating a new one replaces the old one, so update OBS whenever you do.
Overlay watermark
Classic, Queue and custom overlays show a Powered by Ovatio watermark by default. It is removed automatically when the streamer's account has the premium watermark-removal entitlement. A moderator's entitlement does not change the channel's watermark.
Existing and new overlay links use the streamer's current entitlement. OBS checks the stored plan every 30 seconds, including while it is in the background. Autumn billing changes update that plan through a signed webhook, so you don't need a new URL or to save the overlay again. During an Autumn outage, the last synced plan stays in effect. Before the first successful sync, the watermark is shown. Uploaded images are separate assets; they do not contain the watermark and do not need regeneration.
The overlay shows nothing
- Your queue may be empty.
- The link may be outdated because a new one was generated.
- The browser source may need a refresh in OBS.
