Requests and the queue

How requests reach your queue, request limits, and why a request can be refused.

Where requests come from

  • Twitch and YouTube chat, with the song request command (!sr, !songRequest or !request by default). See Chat bot commands.
  • Your viewer page at /c/<your-url>. Viewers sign in, find a song and click to request it. Set it up under Configuration > Settings, where you can copy the link and pause requests. See Settings.
  • You or a mod, from the dashboard. These can include songs that aren't in your library, and they skip every limit.

The queue

The queue lives at Live > Requests, and in the Queue dock on the Dashboard.

  • The first song is the current song.
  • You can reorder songs, remove them and mark them played. Played and removed songs move to Live > Request history.
  • You can switch requests on and off. While they're off, new requests are refused. Mods can also use !setRequests on or !setRequests off in chat.

Limits

Set limits under Configuration > Settings. For every limit, 0 means no limit. Ovatio checks them in the order below and refuses the request at the first one it breaks.

LimitWhat it doesViewer page showsChat bot replies
Max total requestsHow many songs the queue can hold. Even with 0, the queue stops at 999."This stream's request queue is full (N songs). Try again after a song is played.""The queue has reached the max requests"
Max requests per songHow many times one song can be in the queue at once."This song already has the maximum number of requests in the queue (N).""The queue is currently full, try again after the current song is played"
Song cooldownMinutes after a song was played before it can be requested again."This song was played recently. Please wait N minutes before requesting it again.""Song was played too recently"
Per-viewer limitsHow many songs each viewer can have in the queue, set separately for non-followers, followers and subscriber tiers 1, 2 and 3."You've reached your limit of N song requests for this stream.""You have already reached your limit of songs to queue for the stream"

Which per-viewer limit applies depends on where the request comes from:

  • Twitch chat: the viewer's follower and subscriber status.
  • YouTube chat: channel members count as tier 1, everyone else as non-followers.
  • Viewer page: the non-follower limit, for everyone.

Mods and the broadcaster skip every limit when they request from chat, and can request while requests are off.

Viewers can also send at most 5 requests a minute ("You're requesting songs too quickly"), and inactive songs can't be requested ("Song is inactive").

When requests are switched off, viewers see "Requests are currently disabled", or "Requests are currently not active" in chat.

Try it

Set some limits, describe a request, and see whether it gets in and what the viewer is told. This runs the same checks Ovatio uses. Signed in? Use my limits loads your own.
